Zoe wins La Crosse Omnium!

Zoe Reeves took a little trip to La Crosse, Wisonsin to take part in the La Crosse Omnium.  An "Omnium" is a multiple race event in cycling. It's usually a Time Trial, Road Race, & Criterium.  This event had the road race and a TT on the same day. This wasn't your ordinary TT, it was packed with 686 feet of climbing in only 2.37 miles!

Not surprisingly Zoe kill it! She took 2nd in the Road Race, 2nd in the TT (A few hours later), and 4th in the crit. That consistantcy paid off making her the omnium winner!  What was surprising is that she one the women's open class, which is cat 1,2,3, and 4!  Look for Zoe to throw down at the West Michigan Stage Race with her teammates.

Zoe's sisters are also doing quite well! First and foremost they are looking pretty sweet in their new kits.  They were spotted at Gratten this week...as well as taking on "The Track."

The Tower of Power & Johanna Banana

Couldn't ask for a better weekend for ER!

Jorden Wakeley, with his new nickname "The Tower of Power," dominated the Mud, Sweat, & Beers Mountain Bike Race at Mt. Holiday.  Johanna-Banana defended her title as the champ making it three straight years for her!  Both Jorden & Johanna had the same "tactic" for their wins. Their secret? Stay in front, drop everyone, keep it that way. Mission accomplished.

The rest of the Einstein Crew also had a great day on their home turf. Ty Schmidt, Johanna's chief water boy, took an impressive 4th overall! Not a bad improvement from last year's DNF.  Ron Sanborn took 5th overall after playing with his longboard for a week.

Ryan Kennedy took 4th in one of the hardest age groups (30-39) ever after face-planting on one of the 257 sandy-sections. Chris Kushman (6th), after dropping his chain came back to help out Jason Whittaker (7th) for the rest of the race.  Tim Bottrell and Jimmy McKenna also had great results in that category.

Jeff Galsterer and John Ammond did awesome in the 40-49 Expert field. That too was another super-hard age group!

Jon W9 took an awesome 4th place finish in the single-speed division! He never did get that Garmin for Christmas that he asked for. So he kind of got lost out there. Super tough course with only one gear!

Ben Paul & Rusty Klein wanted a good challenge and decided to ride their cyclocross bikes to a 3rd and 4th finish! Although the overall winner in 2010 was on a CX bike (Jason Lowetz) this was not the same course....not at all.  Well done!

Also good job to Gary Chastain, Dave Williams, and Jason Rohraff (Jason 3) on their finishes in the "Stout" category. The team in black had a sweet day!

Rebecca Galsterer dominated the Pale Ale category and won by nearly 9 minutes! I guess that new Focus Black Forest 29er aint so bad, eh?

On a serious note: John Leach is doing well after his unfortunate crash. A HUGE thank you to Hagerty's Michele Howard on sacrificing her race to attend to him. After being released from the hospital that day, John dominated the "Cornhole" tournament at the post-race festivities!

How much cash for your skateboard?

It was a great weekend for Einstein Racing. Four more podiums (all 1st) were added to the never-ending list.  The Willow Time Trial was proof that we do in fact cheat by using some of Einstein's formulas on drag coeffecient. And Ron Sanborn is turning 50 this year, so he REALLY needed a skateboard to feel young again.

Zoe has a target for her back

The first stop of the MBRA Challenge was this weekend at the Willow TT. It was a cold day, but that didn't stop the Reeves family from total domination. Claire & Chloe both won their age division while keeping a steady pace.  Zoe not only took her age division, but proved that she  could beat everyone! She also beat the Cat 1-2 women....at age 16....

Way to go Reeves girls! Now Zoe has to wear the "Number 1" number on her jersey to show who's boss.

Good luck to Zoe this weekend at the La Crosse Omnium in Wisconsin!

Rocket Ron adds a skateboard to his collection

Ron Sanborn and Jorden Wakeley braved the Cohutta 100 this weekend. What is the Cohutta 100 you ask? Well its 100 miles and 14,000 feet of elevation....on a mountain bike...and like the Willow TT, its the first stop in the NUE Series. Yeah, some of these guys do more than one of these 100 milers a year.

Ron won the Master's Division and took home a longboard. Pretty interesting prize but I'm sure Ron can tell us all about it when he comes home. That's 2 races and 2 wins so far Ronnie, good job!

Jorden had an impressive finish and becuase 100 miles isn't hard enough, he decided to do it with a fractured hand. I know all of us would go ahead and skip the race, but not Jorden. H e decides to cut off his cast becuase its in the way.  Even the interviewer is trying to figure it all out. Click the picture to watch a post-race interview from Cycling Dirt!

Good job guys, way to brave the heat down there!

ST. FATTY'S DAY FAT BIKE RACE 3-31-12
EC Civic Center Cyclocross Race

Photo taken by Gary Howe (www.mywheelsareturning.com)

The first annual ECCCX Race was a huge success thanks to our awesome sponsors, volunteers, spectators, and racers! The course was in great shape and the fans braved the Belgian-like temps with plenty of cheers, cowbell, and even a Vuvuzela on top of the big hill (Thanks Team Schmidty!)

The future of Traverse City Cyclocross!

The races each had great competition, but the true excitement was the kids race.  The cold temps didn't stop the 2 laps of pure speed.  They even had to clear the barriers like the adults!

Special thank you to GT Pie, Short's, and Gore Bike Wear for some sweet prizes. Also thank you to Grand Traverse County for having such a great venue & Bike Lab TC for providing tunes and announcing

BIG thank you also goes out to our sweet volunteers. They were so great that both the "Jasons" could even do the race!

Einstein takes Iceman by storm!

Ty & Johanna Schmidt (1st place mum!)

Wow! What a weekend and what a team! Einstein Racing concluded it's inaugural season with a bang. Jason L., Jordan, John M., and Ty lined up with the some of the best local, regional, national and international men fat tire riders  around. Jordan rocked the race with a 13th place finish. Unbelievable in that field! Who's afraid of the reining World Champion? Not Amanda, Mackenzie or Johanna. They raced in the deepest women's field Northern Michigan has ever seen. Johanna had the "race of her life" and finished 6th, one second ahead of Kelli Emmet.

Future Einstein Racer Zoe Reeves showed some serious determination and won the women's scholarship category by out sprinting her closest competitor.

In the age group categories MacKenzie Bickel, Gary, and Rebecca Galsterer both had great rides, Rusty Klein held his own against the young-guys, Jason W. beat out all the not-as-young guys, Ryan Kennedy got 4th in the still-closer-to-35-than-40 guys, Jeff G got 5th against the I-don't-feel-40 guys, Rick Morris came back north to show that 42-is-nothing-to-be-scared-of, "Super Dave" finally broke 2 hours and gets to wear one of his own sub-2-hour t-shirt showing that you really do get better with age, Dave and Ross Williams are an inspiration to all fathers and sons out there, Ron broke 1:50 with one gear, and Jack Kline first with a 1:50:59 in the 61-64 category. That may be the most impressive result of the day. Way to go Jack! You're not even close to being old.

Thanks to Jason L., Jason W. and the rest of the Einstein brains. So proud to be a part of this amazing team!

Einstein signs it's first Junior racer‏!

Exciting news coming from the Einstein Elite Women's Racing Team.  Zoe Reeves, a 16-year-old out of Grand Rapids, MI will join the team for the 2012 season.

Zoe is a rising star on the Michigan racing scene and is certain to make a name for herself on the national level in the near future.

The team welcomes Zoe and appreciates the opportunity to be a part of her amazing cycling future. Be sure to cheer on Zoe at this year's Iceman when she competes in the MYC scholarship women category.

For more on Zoe, check out the article in The Grand Rapids Press that was just released!

Dirty Dozen at Peak-2-Peak
It's was another beautiful fall day to be an Einstein Racer. The forecast did not look pretty but 11 current and 1 future Einstein teammates braved the elements at the 6th anual Peak 2 Peak mountain bike race held at Crystal Mountain. By the 12:30 start time, the temps had risen, the sun was out, and the course with in perfect condition.

Jordan Wakeley and Ty Schmidt lined up with a strong group of pro/elite m en. Jordan and 6 others broke away early and stayed away the rest of the race. Jordan finished 6 in a tough sprint finish. Ty found himself in a 3 man chase group and finished 9th. I probably don't even have to tell you that Ron,"the living legend", finished top spot in the expert single speed division while Jon Dub-Nine took top spot in the sport single speed category.  Chris, Nate, Dave, Jimmy, Rusty and Jack all did great in their expert and sport groups.

So before I tell you the results from the most exiting race of the day (a little biased) I have to tell you the most exciting news in the history of Michigan bicycle racing  (again, a little biased). No, Lance is NOT racing Iceman. The Einstein Elite Women's racing team has two new members. Amanda Ryan and Mackenzie Wooding will be wearing Einstein black for the 2012 season. Amanda dominates  all three diciplines: road, mountain and cross and is "just happy to have teammates and not have GIANT across her bottom anymore". Mackenzie is by far the most talented bike racer Michigan has ever produced and domintes both road and mountain bike races. Unforntately Amanda was unable to make the trip for  P2P. Mackenzie took top spot on the podium in her Priority Health green jersey but Einstein cap while Johanna was able to grrrrrrr herself to the happiest second place finisher ever.

Einstein finished first in a friendly, local team competition once again!
On to Iceman....
Tears of Joy at the Crybaby Classic!

The Crybaby Classic was held this past weekend and even with 3.5 miles of single track added to the original 6 miles of climbing, not a tear was shed by the Einstein Racing team members.

Racing in the elite men, Jordan took 2nd and Ty 7th. Johanna was 2nd in the elite women's race. In the expert men 17-39 Chris, Jeff, and Nate were 4th, 10th and 12th respectively. In the expert 40+ guys Ron and Jack took 1st and 4th and Ross was 2nd in the sport 17-39 men.

Our next generation of Einstein racer toed the line with Carter, Mathew, Jameson and Will all showing how dominant this team will continue to be. Speaking of dominant, new to the Crybaby was the team competition. Out of 10 teams registered, Einstein racers took the top two spots!

Ore 2 Shore & Cherry-Roubaix (Day 1)

Team ER had a sweet performance on Day 1 of the "Big Weekend of bike Racing."

Jorden Wakeley and Ron Sanborn delivered a 1-2 punch to the Single Speed racers at the Ore 2 Shore up in dah U.P. eh? Super Dave also had a great race with a 2:52 for the 48 mile Hard Rock course! Jack Kline won the 60-65 age group category, beating second place by over 30 minutes!!!

Father-Son combo Dave and Ross Williams had an impressive race in the Soft Rock category with a time of 1:33!

In the lower peninsula, the Cherry-Roubaix had an exciting crit in downtown Traverse City. Above is a picture of Jason Lowetz winning a check for $1.87 for taking a top 10 finish (no results as of 10:36pm). Johanna took third in the Women's Pro 1,2 category (cha-ching) battling attacks from teams Priority Health and Hagerty. Jason Whittaker and Ty Schmidt "finished with the pack" in there categories. Einstein Racing also got a surprise visit from Daniel Lowetz in the Cat 3 race today. Not impressed with the difficulty of the course, Brother Dan decided to snap his right shifter off 5 minutes before the start and ride the crit "Single Speed" style. It did not pay off like he thought....

Mr. Podium

Jorden Wakeley threw down with the big boys again at the Wilderness 101 in State College, PA! You are probably starting to gather that Jorden isn't satified unless he reaches the wooden box. After dodging a rattle snake, riding a seat at a 45 degree angle, and loosing his rear brake he still managed a third place finish in the Elite SS division.

"I knew on the elevation profile this was a 5ish mile downhill, but what I didnt know was that it was chocked full of baby head sized rocks waiting to throw my ass to the ground or take the air out of my tires."

Read more of Jorden's race report on the Twin Six web site!

Log Splitter Challenge

Congratulations to the Einstein Racing-Racers that threw down at the Log Splitter Challenge last weekend!

Johanna took 2nd overall in the women's field in 1:57 beating a lot of the strong men!

Also congrats to Jack, Jeff, Chris for representing!

Pie Ride on Wednesdays!

Join us every Wednesday night at 6pm (except Film Festival week) for a family-friendly ride through downtown and the Leelanau Trail. We meet at the Grand Traverse Pie Company on the corner of Park and Front St.  After you finish the ride you get a FREE slice of pie! Kids bikes, trailers, and tandems are welcome.

Pie Ride T-Shirts are also being sold for $15 at GT Pie. $5 goes towards the Children's Advocacy Center!

Lowetz finishes 2nd at West Branch

This is oooold news from a few weeks ago but the podium photo was dropped off at ER HQ this morning.

Please notice that Jason is wearing a TDF climbers cap in this shot. He claims it makes him look like a cage fighter.

Jorden tests positive for pie filling.

Jorden again dominated at the Hanson 100 mountain bike race, winning by over 45 minutes! He did this by only using one gear again. This time he took an opposite approach by using his trademarked (tm) 22x32 gear ratio (yup, granny gear equivalent). That is roughly 396,000 pedal strokes for the entire race! Not a bad tune up for the upcoming Lumberjack 100.

Jack "Shake It On Down" Kline took 2nd in the 2-man elite category as well.

Mud, Sweat, & Beers!

It was a grand day for Einstein Racing at the second annual Mud, Sweat, & Beers. Lets just say that spectators and fellow racers were talking about the new kids on the block....and not the band.

Team ER ended up taking 8 of the top 20 spots, the overall women's title, 1st in the single speed category, 1st in the mens 40+ category, and 1st in the men's 50+ category (at a ripe ol' age of 61).

Prototype jerseys & skin suits were rumored to be an "un-fair advantage" according to (uber-reliable) sources. The WMBA (World Mountain Bike Association) is looking into disqualifying the team for surpassing the drag coeffecient minimum.

Johanna, who works for Munson Rehabilitation Services, posted the best time for the women.  She even cracked the top 25 overall!

"Stumpjumper Ron" won the men's Single Speed category by breaking Jorden's gear ratio record using an amazing 56 x 11 setup. He only had to pedal 347 times for the entire race!

The rest of the team had a huge advantage thanks to their carbo-loading party the night before.  Sandwiches and Top-Secret pies from the Grand Traverse Pie Company were consumed.  Shorts Beer was there to hydrate us as well. Now everyone knows the secret recipe to MTB success.

Yankee Springs TT, start the podium counter!

Dave and Jorden represented kitless Einstein Racing at the Yankee Springs TT this Sunday. Although most riders complained about their fitness not being ready yet, ER made a statement that they were here to ride their bikes fast:

Jorden dominated the Elite Single Speed category by defeating second place by nearly 6 1/2 minutes! When interviewed, he had thought this was a 20 lap race...which explains his faster second lap. Rumor has it Jorden was spotted using a 52 x 12 gear ratio and his chain had streched 3 inches. Here is a photo of him flying over the rocky section on a rigid fork. If you look closely, you can see the rocks moving out of the way.

Dave, forgetting what "sport" ment when he registered, battled the congestion of many riders that went before him. After passing 4,295 bikes he still managed to break the hour mark.  Because the action photo is a blur, we could only gather this obviously-staged pose of Dave and his bike that he loves "oh so much."

Way to represent Einstein Racing while most of us looked outside and used the rollers....again.

Lowetz climbs Wilson Rd in his Big Ring!

In this weeks Tuesday Night Ride, we noticed Jason Lowetz climbing Wilson Rd in his Big Ring...little did we know that he was using his Prototype Primer Gray Specialized SL5 with handlebar chain propulsion.  The video below shows just how exactly he came up with this idea...

This Sunday at 7pm!

Einstein Racing Adopts-A-Road

Thats right, hook up the Burley trailers and roll on down the Tart Trail. Einstein Racing is going to clean up Bunker Hill Rd! We all love that climb before the Vasa, but we don't like pizza cartons and beer cans (empty ones) on the side of the road.
